New Market or Hogg's Market

Located on the Lindsay Street of Kolkata, New Market is a popular shopping spot in Kolkata, which has not lost its significance to the modern day malls. This bustling market place has an array of goods ranging from electronics to an exotic variety of cheese. With over 2000 shopping stalls under one roof, New Market is a bargainer-paradise where one can look out for inexpensive jewellery, apparel, handbags, crockery, spices, fresh flowers etc.

The New Market is open on weekdays from 10 am to 8 pm and on Saturdays until 2.30 pm. The place is shut on Sundays.

Dakshinapan Shopping Center

The Dakshinapan Shopping Center can be found to the southwest of Dhakuria Bridge and it is a lovely open air shopping center where the shoppers can have a great time. The two-floored complex has a courtyard at the center and majorly consists of stores run by the government that sell eye-pleasing handicrafts, ethnic apparel, handlooms etc at cheap prices.

The Dakshinapan Shop is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11 am to 7.30 pm and on Mondays, the stores are open after 2 pm.

Chowringhee Road

Popular as the Jawaharlal Nehru Road, this street in Kolkata mostly includes a number of street vendors who have their stalls along the the line that connects Park Street and New Market. Street and pavement vendors here sell a mind-boggling variety of goods such as jewellery, apparel, household items, street food, grocery and more. Importantly, one can find impressive decorative items made from terracotta here, which are unique to the tradition of Kolkata.

The street vendors usually set up their stalls in the evenings, while the shops are open throughout the day at Chowringhee Road.

Esplanade

Located in central Kolkata, Esplanade is one of the busiest areas in the city. Shoppers can purchase a wide variety of goods here ranging from jewelry, apparel, accessories, footwear, handbags and much more. The place also sells an array of local delicacies which must not be missed out on trying. Prices can be bargained at Esplanade and the visitors can expect to get a good deal.
