'Worship the feet of Srirangaranganatha

Chant the name of Goddess Sridevi Ranganayagi

Bathe in the ecstatic southern Ganges

Sport turmeric and saffron'

Thus goes the lovely lyrics of a song based on and pictured in the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in the Tamil movie Mahanadi. It does in a sense capture the essence that is this stunning temple. Extremely popular among devotees across the world, the ancient temple is truly an inspiration. The temple dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu in his reclining form is one of the foremost, in fact the first to be mentioned in the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to the god. The temple is beautifully located on an island called Srirangam, a part of the southern city of Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu. It is among the religious and spiritual places in India that you must-visit at least once in your lifetime. Here is a look at some tranquil photos of the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam.
