Pune is gearing up for the Anant Chaturdashi celebrations, and the city police have announced significant traffic changes to manage the crowd. Starting at 7 am on Tuesday, several major roads will be closed in phases to ensure smooth movement during the festivities. Heavy vehicles are completely banned from entering the city on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Road Closures
Shivaji Road and Laxmi Road will be shut down starting at 7 am. Tilak Road, Bagade Road, and Guru Nanak Road will close from 9 am, while Ganesh Road and Kelkar Road will shut at 10 am. Additional roads such as Bajirao Road, Shastri Road, and Kumthekar Road will be inaccessible from noon onwards.
Traffic Diversion Points
From 4 pm onwards, key roads like Jangli Maharaj Road, Karve Road, Fergusson College Road, Bhandarkar Road, Pune-Satara Road, Solapur Road, and Prabhat Road will also be closed to vehicles. These closures will remain in effect until the Ganesh immersion processions are completed on Wednesday.
To manage the traffic flow, the police have set up several diversion points at major intersections. These include:

Temporary Ring Road
A temporary ring road has been created by connecting sections of Karve Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Ganeshkhind Road, Ambedkar Road, Nehru Road, Shivneri Road, Satara Road, Sinhagad Road, and Shastri Road. This will help traffic move smoothly around the city during the Anant Chaturdashi celebrations.
Barricades for Smooth Traffic
Barricades have been placed in several connecting alleys to prevent vehicles from entering the main roads. Some key areas that will be blocked off include:
- Kumthekar Road from Shanipar Chowk to Alka Talkies Chowk
- Tilak Road from Jedhe Chowk to Alka Talkies Chowk
- Bajirao Road from Puram Chowk to Futka Buruj Chowk
- Shivaji Road from Gadgil Statue to Jedhe Chowk
Other roads affected are Laxmi Road, Kelkar Road, and Shastri Road. Jangli Maharaj Road, Karve Road, and Fergusson College Road will also have restricted vehicle movement.
These traffic measures have been put in place to ensure that the Anant Chaturdashi celebrations run smoothly and safely for all participants.
