Se Cathedral, one of the grandest churches in India, is dedicated to Catherine of Alexandria. This church was built to commemorate the triumph of Portuguese over Muslim militia. Consequently, the Portuguese took over Goa in 1510. The day of this victory was on the feast of Saint Catherine. So, the church was devoted to Saint Catherine. The construction of this basilica started in 1562 and completed in 1618. The cathedral is 240 ft high and 180 ft wide. The key attraction of this church is its 'Golden Bell', which is believed to be one of the most impressive bells in the world. There are some old portraits on the main altar of the church devoted to Catherine of Alexandria and is also home to Cross of Miracles.
