When the Dwaita philosopher Madhwacharya gets the sandal idols of Lord Krishna, Lord Balaram and Lord Janardhana, one of the sandal lump which had the statue of Balaram fell off in this place ; hence a temple for Balram is dedicated in this place.

While the city of Udupi is ruled by the younger brother Lord Krishna, Vadabhaandeshwara is dominated by the elder brother Sri Balram and the temple is said to have been built by the Dwaita philosopher Sri Madhwacharya.

Vadabhaandeshwara is located amidst the serene beauty of the gorgeous Malpe and makes it a must visit for everyone who visits Udupi. Along with the temple dedicated to Lord Balram there is also a shrine of Lord Subramanya in this place.

The temple premises takes you to the vintage times with its rustic look and the Kerala style architecture. The statue of the Lord is mesmerizing and the rituals in this temple are followed on the principles of Dwaita philosophy.

Adjacent to the Vadabhaandeshwara temple, there is another small temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman and it is believed that the Lord appears in the dreams of his devotees and has the name Vishwavyaapi Swapnadarshana Veerahanumantha. The statue of the Lord Hanuman is in heroic pose and it is said to attract a lot of devotees from various places.

There are a couple of houses in and around the temple and the place is calm and quiet for solitude seekers unlike Udupi; if you would like to spend some time with yourself; Vadabhaandeshwara is the place. With Malpe being just a km away, the beautiful waves, the harbor and the pleasant atmosphere makes it all the more peaceful.
