The History And Surroundings Of Pari Mahal

Located atop the Zabarwan Mountain Range in the vicinity of Dal Lake in Srinagar, Pari Mahal is a beautiful palace which is characterised by a terraced garden and was constructed by Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of the Mughal King Shah Jahan, in the mid 17th century. It housed a small library and was used by Dara Shikoh as a summer retreat.

Later on, Pari Mahal was converted into an observatory and was used as a teaching centre for astronomy and astrology students. Today, it is under the control of the State Government and has become a tourist destination. Built in the Islamic style of architecture, this Mughal beauty is surrounded by green valleys and hills and makes for a perfect weekend stoppage.

How To Reach Pari Mahal

By Air: One can take a direct flight to Srinagar airport and then from there, a cab to Pari Mahal. The distance between the palace and the airport is 21 km and it will take an average time of 1 h to reach it.

By Rail: Srinagar has a railway station of its own, and hence you can take a direct train to Srinagar railway station. From there, you can hire a direct cab to Pari Mahal, which is located at a distance of about 20 km from the station.

By Road: The region of Pari Mahal has a good system of roads. Therefore, it can be easily accessed by road.
