South Kolkata’s Blue Line faces a planned shutdown today, Sunday, September 13, 2026. A traffic and power block runs 9 am to 6:30 pm between Gitanjali and Kavi Nazrul. No trains will operate between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Shahid Khudiram then. Dakshineswar to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar runs normally, with a tentative restart after 6:30 pm.
Metro officials say maintenance drives the Gitanjali–Kavi Nazrul block. Trains will run normally on the northern span. The southern belt stays shut until evening. After 6:30 pm, services are expected between Dakshineswar and Shahid Khudiram. Kavi Subhash remains unavailable. The Blue Line currently terminates at Shahid Khudiram during station reconstruction.

When the block lifts, authorities aim to restore Dakshineswar–Shahid Khudiram through running. Build a 20–30 minute buffer at interchanges to manage heavier evening crowds.

Use North–South Road buses from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar toward Garia. Frequent options include 80A, 205, S6A, AC6 and M7 variants. For New Garia, suburban trains on Sealdah South are fastest. Board at Ballygunge or Jadavpur. Alight at New Garia station, beside Kavi Subhash. App cabs will surge, so pool where possible and depart earlier than usual.
Plan around the 6:30 pm switchover. If you must cross the gap, split the journey: Metro to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, bus to Garia, then suburban hop if needed. Keep digital tickets handy, avoid peak 6:30–7:30 pm queues, and track advisories for any delay to the tentative restart.
