Nestled between the hill ranges of Banasura, it is built across the tributary of Kabini River in Wayanad. Made of massive stacks of stones and boulders, Banasura Sagar dam has a set of islands in its reservoir. These islands with the backdrop of Banasura hills (part of Western Ghats) is definitely a feast to the pair of eyes.
The route to Banasura dam is quite uphill and many steps have to be climbed to reach the dam. A breathtaking landscape awaits you at the top and I bet you wouldn't regret the climb! The dam is set in lush green backdrop contrary to the blue on the opposite side of dam. The dam has a beautiful garden with statues and sculptures, along it. The garden has exotic flowers and picnic spots for families! With swings on the trees, it is an ideal picnic spot for not just the kids, but the kid within you! The garden also provides a perfect backdrop for photography enthusiasts. There is also a small museum set-up that has birds and variety of fishes. The place also has old coin collections of India and pictures of some amusing facts of India.
The stroll through the pathways, touching the soothing breeze, gives you a surreal experience! One can zoom across the crystal clear waters in the dam with a boat. Boating between the tiny islands that speckle the lake face is an attraction on its own! Banasura Sagar dam is also an ideal trekking destination.
