The Modhera village in the Indian state of Gujarat is renowned for its Sun temple situated in the Mehsana district on the river Pushpavati and it was built by King Bhima-I of the Chaulukya dynasty in 1026-27. Being so popular already because of the marvelous sun temple, Modhera is now India's first village to become a net renewable energy generator and the first modern village to have an ultra-modern solar-powered charging station for electric vehicles.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced it to be the first solar-powered village in the nation. Following the announcement, a 3D projection light and sound performance emphasizing the significance of the Sun Temple in the charming Gujarat village was launched. Heritage lighting has been put on the temple complex as part of the renovation. Visitors can mark their presence at the temple between the hours of 6 and 10 pm to see the lighting.

According to the Gujarat government, it has made sure that numerous welfare initiatives are implemented sustainably in Gujarat while also keeping in mind the Prime Minister's goal of expanding the usage of renewable energy in India. With this, Modhera residents might cut their electricity costs by 60% to 100%.
