In 2021, Durga Puja in Kolkata was recognized globally when it was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list. This recognition highlights the festival's cultural significance and the artistic expression that goes into creating the stunning pandals (temporary structures) and idols of the goddess Durga.

Pandal Hopping - A Unique Experience

One of the most exciting parts of Durga Puja is pandal hopping. During the festival, beautifully decorated pandals are set up across the city, each with a unique theme. These pandals house the idols of goddess Durga and showcase intricate artwork that attracts millions of devotees and tourists. Some famous pandals include Bagbazar, Kumartuli Park, and Shobhabazar Rajbari. This year, one of the major highlights is the environment-friendly puja pandal at Lalabagan Nabankur in Kolkata, here the club has done an impressive job by decorating their Durga idol with 8,000 natural plants. Their goal is to encourage visitors to develop a love for plants. The interesting point is that the devotees can even take some of these plants home. It took five months to complete the pandal.
