Kerala Tourism – Tranquil Beaches

Travellers are very keen to head to places that have a beach nearby. It offers as the best getaway and an ideal holiday setting; that of laid-back calm.

It is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate and an ideal escape from the rest of the world. The golden sand, the frothy waters and the fresh sea breeze is a perfect escapade for one and all.

There are many beaches in Kerala where you can head to and enjoy the beauty of nature. Most of these beaches are crowded by tourists and locals alike who come here to relax and have a good time.

There are a few beaches though that still remain unexplored and hence provide the best getaways in the state.

Kappad Beach

Kappad Beach, situated at a distance of 18 km from Calicut city, is best known for its sandy shores and historical significance. The beach is marked in the pages of history as the place where Vasco da Gama the Portuguese navigator landed in the year of 1498. A monument is installed in the beach to honour this historical moment and it contains an inscription that reads 'Vasco da Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498'. The beach is a pleasingly tranquil spot surrounded by rocks. There is a small temple situated on a rock that stretches into the sea. Kappad beach is usually frequented by tourists as well as people who come here for Ayurvedic treatments.

Kizhunna Ezhara Beach

Kizhunna Ezhara Beach, located 12 km from Kannur, is a collective name given to Kizhunna and Ezhara, two scenic beaches that lie alongside each other. It is one of the most pristine and undisturbed beaches located on the Kannur coastal line that attracts tourists with its serene ambience and shallow waters. Vast stretches of sandy shores, surrounding rocks and mild waves touching the golden sands add to the beauty of the beach. The bay is shallow and calm making it an ideal spot for swimming and sun bathing.

Meenkunnu Beach

Meenkunnu Beach

Meenkunnu Beach located about 10 km from Kannur is an annex of Payyambalam Beach and is situated in Azhikode. The beach is rich in natural beauty, further magnified by its long stretches of sandy shores and coconut trees lined along the shores. Unlike the other beaches of the region, Meenkunnu Beach is less explored and hence enjoys an undisturbed ambience. It is an ideal holidaying spot for those who want to spend their time in tranquillity.

Muzhuppilangad Beach

Muzhuppilangad Beach

Muzhuppilangad Beach, lying at a distance of 8 km from Thalassery and 16 km from Kannur is the only drive-in beach in Kerala. This beach is less frequented by tourists and is an ideal location for one-day tours and family picnics. Travellers can drive along the entire stretch of 5 km and enjoy the scenic beauty of the sandy shores.

Snehatheeram Beach

Snehatheeram BeachorLove Shoreas it is popularly called is located at Thalikulam region of Thrissur. It lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea and is mostly visited by the locals of the region. The golden sand and cool sea breeze give a soothing sensation to those who come here. It is one of the few unexplored beaches in Kerala and hence remains free of crowds. It is a perfect place to head to with your loved one during the evening in time for the sunset.
