The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, and related Public Sector Undertakings including the Airports Authority of India & the Ministry of aviation has administrative control over Pawan Hans Helicopters Limited.

The Railways Act of 1989's rules for rail travel and operations are enforced by the Commission of Railway Safety, which is governed administratively by this Ministry.

Ever wondered what is the revenue of the Ministry of Civil Aviation in India?

The details of revenue generated in 2019-20 is (in Crores) INR 12837.44 crores & the expenditure incurred by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) during 2019-20 is (in Crores) INR 9020.38 crores. In 2020-21 the revenue earned was (in Crores) INR 4867.04 crores and expenditure incurred was (in Crores) INR 8043.16 crores.

Similarly in 2021-22, revenue earned in (in Crores) is INR 6841.29 crores, and the expenditure incurred by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is (in Crores) INR 7645.01 crores. Also, the Aeronautical tariff has been raised by 4% and 3.5% for international & domestic flights, with effect from 1st October 2020.

This is to note that to increase the revenue or demand in the aviation sector, many reformative measures have been taken by the government like the Airports Authority of India and other airport developers aim to invest over Rs. 98,000 crores in the airport sector over the next five years for, among other things, the enlargement and renovation of current terminals, the construction of new terminals, and the strengthening of runways.

The establishment of below 21 Greenfield Airports has received "In-Principle" clearance from the Indian government:

  • Mopa in Goa
  • Navi Mumbai
  • Shirdi & Sindhudurg in Maharashtra
  • Kalaburagi, Hassan, Vijayapura, & Shivamogga in Karnataka,
  • Dabra (Gwalior) in Madhya Pradesh
  • Kushinagar & Noida (Jewar) in Uttar Pradesh,
  • Dholera and Hirasar in Gujarat,
  • Karaikal in Puducherry
  • Dagadarthi, Bhogapuram & Oravakal (Kurnool) in Andhra Pradesh
  • Durgapur in West Bengal
  • Pakyong in Sikkim
  • Kannur in Kerala
  • Donyi Polo, Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh

Out of which 9 airports have been already in operation & 10th airport at Mopa has been inaugurated and will be operational soon.

Aviation

With this, the airlines' domestic capacity has been fully restored to pre-COVID levels, and the Goods & Services Tax (GST) rate for domestic Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services has been lowered from 18% to 5%.

Recent data on the growth percentage of Airlines:

'Vistara' is leading with 100% growth from 2020-21 to 2021-22 with the number of passengers traveling was 3,371,361.00 in 2020-21 and it was doubled by 6,743,071.00 people traveling with Vistara airlines.

Second, comes in the list is 'Go Air' where in 2020-21 the number of people travelled is 4,018,264.00 and in 2021-22 it went high with a growth rate of 98% to 7,970,284.00 people travelling using Go Air. Similarly, Air India showed a growth of 70%, Indigo 58.9 %, etc,
