As dense fog engulfs the national capital and its surrounding regions, visibility has been severely compromised in various areas. This has resulted in extraordinary delays for both flight and train services. The adverse weather has notably disrupted the usual pace and schedule, causing inconvenience to passengers and prompting advisories from transportation authorities.

According to the flight tracker website flightradar24, over 100 flights have faced delays due to the challenging weather. The Delhi airport has taken measures to address the situation by implementing low visibility procedures while maintaining that flight operations are proceeding normally. They have also advised passengers to stay in contact with their airlines for the most updated flight information.

North India Shivers as Temperature Plummets
Visuals from news agency ANI capture passengers braving the bone-chilling cold at railway platforms as several trains report significant delays. The cold wave coupled with dense fog has gripped parts of north India, including the national capital, New Delhi, which recently recorded this winter season's lowest temperature at 3.3 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, cautioning against very dense fog conditions in the region.

The weather department's observations indicate that a fog layer extends from Punjab to northeast India, covering areas in Haryana, north Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. Dense fog patches have also been spotted along India's east coast. Cities such as Varanasi, Agra, Gwalior, Jammu, Pathankot, and Chandigarh have experienced zero visibility, posing significant challenges for travelers and locals alike.
Temperatures in Punjab and Haryana Drop Below Freezing
For the first time this winter, temperatures in Punjab dipped below the freezing point. Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar recorded a chilling -0.2 degrees Celsius, a stark contrast to the zero-degree temperature experienced the previous morning. Similarly, Haryana felt the winter's bite with the morning temperature in Mahendragarh almost hitting zero at 0.4 degrees Celsius. These statistics, provided by the India Meteorological Department, underscore the severity of this winter's cold wave.
The ongoing severe weather conditions serve as a reminder for travelers in and to northern India to stay aware and prepared for potential delays and disruptions. With advisories in place, it is essential to keep abreast of the latest travel updates and stay in touch with transportation services for real-time information. As the cold wave continues, safety and patience become paramount for those facing the winter's unpredictable impact on travel.
