Chopta -The Mini Switzerland in India

Mountains have a special ambiance; the cool breeze, the smell of soil, thick green trees take us to a different world. Chopta is one such enthralling hill station in Uttarakhand. It is located on Ukimath road in Gharwal region of Uttarakhand.

Chopta, at the foot of Himalayan ranges, is popularly known as 'Mini Switzerland in India'.

Chopta in Uttarkhand is definitely for people who like less populous places. Its pristine environment gives a good feel for trekkers and tourists. Chopta - Tungnath - Chandrashila trek is a famous one. Tourists can see the majestic peaks of Panchchuli, Nanda Devi , Kedarnath and Trishul while on the trek.

Chopta is a remote destination even in Uttarakhand. So, it is better to reach from Dehradun or Rishikesh. From Dehradun it is around 246 km and can go through NH 58; from Rishikesh also it is 211 km via same route. Though it is a remote place, Chopta is worth a visit. One can feel the tranquility of mountains and the nature in its undisturbed state.

This Mini Switzerland in India hosts a number of adventure activities: trekking and camping, snow skiing, rock climbing, etc.Chopta is a starting point for Tungnath trek; the region has many trekking trails cutting across beautiful grasslands and jungles.

Chandrashila (moon rock) is the summit of Tungnath and the treks from Chopta often end in Chandrashila.

The other attractions near Chopta are: Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, Chandrashila peak, Deoria Tal lake, Atrimuni Falls which can be covered on various trekking tracks.

Chopta is aptly known as Mini Switzerland, as its natural habitat is a bliss to see. It has a pleasant climate during May - July and September - November. Snow fall starts from November and remains till March. This hill station is one of the popular winter destinations and known for snow treks.

It is a heaven for nature lovers and adventurous people. Since it is located in the Himalayan ranges, reaching the place might be little challenging and time consuming.

The place is worth the risk and patience. Especially, if you are an adventure enthusiast, Chopta should not to be missed from your bucket list.
