Delhi is a city of historical monuments, it has a lot to offer for tourism. Not only this, the city has some beautiful temples that are famous across the country. To name a few, the Akshardham Temple, the Lotus Temple, etc. gets thousands of visitors on a regular basis. Along with these, Chhatarpur Temple in Delhi is one among them.

Chhatarpur Temple is dedicated to the Goddess Katyayini Devi. She is another form of Goddess Durga and one among the Navadurgas (nine main forms of Durga). Hence, it is also known as Adya Katyayini Shakti Peetham.

History of Chhatarpur Temple

Sri Adya Katyayini Shakti Peetham was formed by Baba Sant Nagpal Ji in 1974. At that time, this shrine of Goddess Durga was the largest temple complex in Delhi.

Where is Chhatapur Temple

Adya Katyayini Temple is situated in a suburb called Chhatarpur in Delhi. This beautiful temple complex is very near to the heritage area of Mehrauli in Delhi. In fact, it is just around 4km from the famous Qutub Minar. So, tourists who visit Mehrauli can actually cover Chhatarpur Temple together.

Adya Katyayini Temple Complex

The huge complex of Adya Katyayini Temple allures everyone. It doesn't just have the shrine of Goddess Katyayini (Durga) but many other small shrines of Hindu Gods. During the time of its construction, Chhatarpur Temple was said to be the second largest temple complex in India. Later, Akshardham Temple beat this record. However, Sri Adya Katyayini Temple is one of the biggest temple complexes in India.

Architecture of Adya Katyayini Temple

The temple complex houses one main shrine dedicated to Goddess Katyayini and 20 other small shrines. You can also visit Shiv-Gouri Nageshwar Mandir, Ganesha Temple, Rama Temple, Radha Krishna Temple, another temple for Katyayini Devi which is open to public only twice a year. There is also a prayer hall where you can listen to religious discourses. Whole complex is a marble architecture which gives it a grand look. Both South India and North India styles of temple architectures make it even more interesting to explore.

No doubt, Chhatarpur Temple is one of the popular temples in Delhi. It is also one of the top tourist attractions in Delhi near to Mehrauli.
