Athirappilly Falls, Kerala

Located in Thrissur District of Kerala, Athirappilly Falls is along the Chalakudy River on the South-West Coast of India. It is also referred to as the 'Niagara of India' owing to it's vastness and scenic beauty. This 80 feet falls which, cascades beautifully down the tall rocks, and joins the River Chalakudy. Situated amidst greenery, it proves to be one of the best waterfalls to go with family and friends.

Athirappilly Falls has also been a place where songs and sequences of many Indian films have been shot. Some of the famous ones being Dil Se, Raavan, Iruvar, Guru etc.

Jog Falls, Karnataka

Another ideally located best waterfalls of South India is the Jog Falls which can be found near Sagara district of Karnataka. Also prominent as the Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi, it originates from the River Sharavathi and is the second largest ‘plunge waterfalls' of India, the first being Nohkalikai falls in Shillong, Meghalaya.

Cascading down from a height of 830 feet, the Jog Falls has four segments which are aptly named according to their nature of flow, such as Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer. This waterfalls is beautiful to watch during the monsoons.

Dudhsagar Falls, Goa

Situated at the Mandovi River of Goa in India, the Dudhsagar Falls is a four tiered waterfalls, that attracts a large number of visitors. Known as India's 5th largest waterfalls, the Dudhsagar flows down from a height which is more than a thousand feet, which makes for a stunning sight, especially when visited during the monsoon season.

The Dudhsagar is a sparkling white beauty, true to it's name which translates to ‘An ocean of Milk'. The falls is situated in the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary of Goa and is surrounded by lush greenery.

Shivanasamudra Falls, Karnataka

Yet another best waterfalls of South India is also in the state of Karnataka, known as the Shivanasamudra Falls. Originating from the River Kaveri, the Shivanasamudra Falls is a segmented waterfalls which is divided into two parts by the island town called as Shivanasamudra.

The average height of the Shivanasamudra falls is about 321 feet. This waterfalls is a delight to watch and is also considered as one great waterfalls of South India and it is also a renowned picnic spot. The western part of this falls further creates twin segments of falls known as the Gaganachukki and the eastern part is known as the Bharachukki falls.

Hogenakkal Falls, Tamil Nadu

Located in the district of Dharmapuri at Tamilnadu, the Hogenakkal Falls can easily be called as one of the best waterfalls of South India. The natural beauty surrounding the falls, the boat rides and the flowing water make the Hogenakkal Falls an apt waterfalls tourism spot for travellers.

Originating from River, Kaveri, Hogenakkal is up to 66 feet in height at some points and creates a smoky appearance while flowing down the rocks, hence the name, as ‘Hoge' means smoke and ‘Kal' means rocks in Kannada.
