The royal ambience of Mysore and its cultural heritage has made the city a tourist favourite in South India. Located around 140km from the happening city of Bangalore, Mysore is easily accessible from all the major destinations in India.

Mysore Palace

The Mysore Palace is a visual treat to the eyes. The shimmering structure can't be forgotten if you have visited it once. Located at the heart of the city, the palace is a national treasure and pride of Mysore city. The original structure was built in wood and was burnt down in 1897 and rebuilt in 1912.

The current structure of Mysore Palace, also known as the Amba Vilas Palace, is built in Indo-Saracenic architectural style which is a blend of Hindu, Rajput, Muslim and Gothic styles of architecture. The three-storeyed stone structure is not to be missed when it is illuminated during Sunday nights and festivals. After Taj Mahal, the Mysore Palace is the most visited tourist attractions in India.

Jaganmohan Palace

The three-storeyed structure of Jaganmohan Palace was the residing place of the Wodeyars, the Kings of Mysore, while the Mysore palace was being rebuilt after it was burnt down in 1897. The structure is built using traditional Hindu style of architecture. The walls inside the palace have beautiful painted murals that catch the eyes of tourists. The murals here depict Mysore Dasara, lineage of the Mysore royal family and so on.

Currently, the structure has an art gallery that has the largest collection of artefacts in South India. A large number of these artefacts are paintings by renowned artists like Raja Ravi Varma. The other exhibits include antiques, coins, weapons used for wars and musical instruments.

Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion

The Jayalakshmi Vilas palace is one of the five royal mansions built by the Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar. The palace was built for his eldest daughter. The structure is situated in the campus of the University of Mysore.

The palace is built in a Greco-Roman style and portrays heavy Indian woodwork in the interiors. The structure has 125 rooms, 287 intricately carved doors and 300 windows. There are entrances from each side of the palace that are different from each other. It also has a Folklore Museum maintained by the University of Mysore.
