Apart from the regular trains, the South Central Railway (SCR) is operating 22 special trains between various destinations to manage the surge of Sabarimala pilgrims. These special trains, running from November 20, 2023, to January 10, 2024, cater to specific dates, with diverse stoppages and timings. The trains offer various classes such as first-class AC, 2AC, 3AC, sleeper class, general second class, and luggage-cum-brake van coaches to accommodate the varying preferences of the devotees.
Extended Darshan Hours:
In an effort to enhance the pilgrimage experience, the temple authorities have introduced a significant change. The darshan time at Sabarimala has been extended to 16 hours a day, spanning from 3 am to 11 pm during the annual pilgrimage season.
Pilgrims can now ascend the 'Padinettam Padi,' the 18 sacred steps leading to the sanctum sanctorum, even after the temple's official closing time. This thoughtful initiative aims to streamline the darshan process, allowing devotees to avoid long queues and experience a seamless darshan when the temple reopens at 3 am.

If you're planning a journey to Sabarimala, it's essential to know that there's no direct train connectivity to the sacred site. The nearest railway station is Chengannur, and from there, you have various travel options.
By car, you can choose between two routes, one passing through Thiruvalla, Ranni, Vadasserikkara, and Plappally, and the other through Mavelikara, Kayamkulam, Adoor, Pathanamthitta, and Erumely. The drive takes around 2 hours and 20-25 minutes.
Another convenient option is hiring a taxi from Chengannur, costing around 2,500 to 3,000 rupees. The taxi follows the same routes as by car, adjusting to traffic conditions.
For a budget-friendly choice, take a bus from Chengannur to Pampa, the base camp for Sabarimala. The journey costs about 100 rupees and takes around 3 hours, with frequent buses operated by KSRTC and private operators.
If you prefer trains, take one from Chengannur to Kottayam, the nearest railway station to Sabarimala. The train fare is approximately 50 rupees, and the journey takes about an hour. From Kottayam, you can then catch a bus or hire a taxi to Pampa and trek the final 5 kilometers to Sabarimala.
