Northern India has its share of adventure travel destinations for the brave traveller. Be it trying to conquer the frigid and forbidding ranges of the Himalayas, white water rafting in the icy cold of mountain rivers in Ladakh or paragliding for a bird's eye view from Bir, North India doesn't disappoint the bold and the adventurous. Add to that these places are also tourist destinations and you have the perfect cocktail of adventure and retreat. Manali

Leh and Ladakh
Situated between the Karakoram and Himalayan Ranges is the tourist hub of Leh. Major parts of the city are covered with Buddhist monuments.
Resting on the banks of the Indus river in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh is defined by monastries, beautiful lakes, mesmerising landscapes and snow-capped mountain peaks. The world's two tallest mountain ranges - Karakoram and Himalayas - are located here.

Valley of Flowers
On the way to Hemkund Sahib through Govindghat lies the Valley of Flowers. It is a perfect contrast to the grim face of the Himalayas.

A fabulous place for camping in the outdoors, this is also the place to be if you are into hiking. It requires an ardous 16 kilometer trek to the top but it is well worth it to see the mesmerizing sight of 300 different varieties of flowers carpeted against the grim mountain tops.

Nainital
Nainital, popularly referred to as the 'Lake District of India' , is located in the Himalayan Ranges. It has a few beautiful lakes and the famous Naini lake is the highlight here.

Nainital Sports
The old summer love of the British, is perfect for those who are not looking at any extreme sports but would rather settle for simple pleasures like boating, long nature walks and horse riding. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't trek or go rock climbing here. Go boating on the Naini lake. It is a wonderful experience. You can choose from a range of row boats, pedal boats and small yachts.

Bir
Bir, a popular tourist spot in Himachal Pradesh, is well known for its spiritual centres. One can come here and de-stress themselves with the help of yoga and meditation.

Bir Sports
It is called the 'Paragliding Capital of India'. Every year in the month of October, the Department of Tourism,Civil Aviation and Government of Himachal Pradesh hold a 'Paragliding Pre World Cup'.
Paragliders from around the world come here to participate in this event.
