The Adayar broken bridge is located around 15km from Chennai city. Built across Adayar estuary, the bridge had partially collapsed in 1977 due to strong current of the river. This bridge that was built to help fishermen commute from Santhome beach to Elliot's beach, was not repaired after the collapse.

Today, this bridge is a favourite hangout spot for those in Chennai and surrounding areas, and also a lovely place for photography. Being a popular shooting location for movies, the Adayar broken bridge has been featured in South Indian movies like Vaali and Aayudha Ezhuthu.
The Adayar broken bridge in Chennai is a great place to watch sunset and sunrise. Though it is a popular movie shooting location and a great hangout place for the youth during day time, the place gets deserted after dusk and there are no street lights in the area, making it even spookier.

The place is also believed to be haunted. People have reported or hearing a woman's cry here. It is said that a lady was murdered here years back, after which her cries are heard at the bridge at night. Thus, the place is not visited by even bravehearts after around 11pm.
