St. James Church, Thane

St. James Church is an English Church situated near the Thane Head Post Office and the Prison Reservoir. The church was built in 1825 and is close to 200 years old. The church is made keeping a significant Gothic style of architecture in mind. Its dimensions are 90 ft by 60 ft. The main entrance is flanked by six pillars, each measuring 15 ft.

It houses a large and magnificent porch that spans over an area of 350 sq ft. It is 24 ft high and is made of Greek Stone. The Church’s centre is 24 ft high, 55 ft long and 33 ft high, and is enclosed with the help of a wooden ceiling.

One can notice a cemetery in the vicinity of the church. St. James Church was managed by the British Government in the pre-independence; however, it is currently under the Bombay Diocesan Trust Association.
