YEIDA Slashes Speed Limit on Yamuna Expressway for Road Safety

In a move to enhance road safety, YEIDA has revised the speed limit on the Yamuna Expressway. The limit, effective December 15, has been reduced to 75 kmph from the previous 100 kmph to prevent accidents during the winter months. This decision comes as a response to the frequent accidents on the expressway during winter due to heavy fog. YEIDA is coordinating with Jaypee Infratech for the implementation of safety measures.

In a noteworthy move to augment road safety, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has announced a significant revision of the speed limit for the entire stretch of the Yamuna Expressway.

Starting December 15, the speed limit for all vehicles traveling on this high-speed corridor will be reduced to 75 kmph, a considerable decrease from the usual limit of 100 kmph. This proactive decision is aimed at curtailing the number of accidents and ensuring the safety of commuters, especially during the perilous winter months characterized by heavy fog.

Winter Safety Measures on the Expressway

The YEIDA's decision to lower the speed limit comes as a response to the frequent accidents and pile-ups that occur on the 165-km long expressway during the foggy winter season. The new speed limit will be in effect for at least two months, during which visibility is often compromised.

To enforce this new rule and promote safer driving conditions, YEIDA is actively coordinating with Jaypee Infratech, the company responsible for maintaining the expressway, to ensure the implementation of appropriate safety measures.

Commitment to Commuter Safety

Arun Veer Singh, the CEO of YEIDA, has been vocal about the importance of reducing the speed limit to prevent road mishaps. Emphasizing that a reduced speed aids in safer driving, Singh has highlighted YEIDA's commitment to commuter safety.

He also disclosed that YEIDA has urged Jaypee Infratech to respond with a detailed outline of the safety measures they will put into action to further protect drivers on the expressway.

Enhanced Safety Protocols and Awareness Initiatives

YEIDA has taken a comprehensive approach to ensure safety by requiring Jaypee Infratech to install early warning signs and educate drivers about traffic regulations and current weather conditions.

These initiatives include distributing pamphlets at toll plazas with safety tips and rule compliance information that could save lives. Furthermore, there will be regular broadcasts on the radio and public announcements at toll plazas to keep motorists informed.

To combat driver fatigue—a common cause of accidents—Jaypee Infratech has also been instructed to provide hot tea to drivers and ensure the use of fog lights during low visibility conditions.

Yamuna Expressway safety awareness

The revised speed limit on the Yamuna Expressway is a pivotal step towards ensuring the safety of countless travelers who use this route. Through the concerted efforts of YEIDA and Jaypee Infratech, the implementation of stringent safety measures and widespread awareness campaigns aims to significantly reduce the risk of accidents during the fog-laden winter months. As the new regulations take effect, drivers are encouraged to adhere strictly to the speed limit and remain vigilant, contributing to a safer travel experience for all.
