Other Safety Measures Proposed by the Commission
Apart from tailoring and barbering services, the commission has suggested additional steps to enhance security for women. They are encouraging female security personnel on school buses and advising that stores selling women's clothing employ female staff. This, they believe, will make women feel more comfortable while shopping and allow them to enjoy a worry-free experience. These guidelines show a deep focus on creating an environment where women can go about their daily routines without anxiety or risk.
Maneesha Ahlawat, a member of the commission, clarified that these proposals are in their initial stages. She explained that they are currently evaluating the practicality of the guidelines. If approved, they will be sent to the government for further discussion and potential policy creation. Even as the commission reviews these suggestions, Shamli district's probation officer, Hamid Hussain, has already directed local establishments to start following the recommendations, showing strong support for these safety measures.
A Step Forward for Women's Safety in Uttar Pradesh
Hussain's directives require women's gyms, drama, and yoga centers to have only female instructors. Additionally, the installation of CCTV cameras with DVR facilities in these establishments has been mandated to enhance security. In stores selling women's clothing, female staff must be available to assist customers. This vision aligns closely with the commission's larger goal of creating a safe and inclusive environment for women in the state.
This initiative is not the first effort by the Uttar Pradesh government to address women's safety concerns. Last year, the administration, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, introduced rules that protect women from being required to work night shifts in factories. According to these rules, female workers cannot be made to work before 6 am or after 7 pm without their written consent.
