This move has raised some eyebrows, with people questioning why the airline needs to know the weight of their passengers. So, let us understand the real reason behind this move by the National Airline of New Zealand.
According to the airline, their continual efforts to guarantee that they have accurate information on the weight as well as the balance of their aircraft include conducting a weighted survey. The travelers will reportedly be requested to place their luggage on an additional, identical scale for a separate weighing. Knowing an aircraft's weight is essential for calculating fuel usage, and knowing a passenger's weight to a greater degree can make for a safer flight, according to the airline.
Does that mean the whole world will know your weight?
Some passengers are concerned about the weight survey because they believe it violates their privacy. Don't worry, though. It should be noted that neither passengers nor airline staff can see any traveler's weight; instead, the information is directly entered into a computer and logged anonymously.

So, it is not mandatory for everyone boarding flights leaving from Auckland International Airport and the airline clearly states that participation in this weighing initiative is entirely voluntary.
The airline calls the weigh-in an "essential" endeavor and points out that the nation's civil aviation authority mandates weight surveys be carried out every five years to re-evaluate the weight load and its distribution for flights.
Please be aware that the weighing procedure, which happens at the plane's departure gate, won't cause any flights to be delayed, according to the carrier. In total, the airline will invite more than 10,000 overseas passengers to take part in the weight survey in June. From now till the 2nd of July, the initiative will run.
