On February 18, 2025, the Sabarimala temple successfully completed its five-day Kumbham pooja celebrations. This sacred event, dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, was filled with traditional rituals and attracted a large number of devotees who came to witness the divine ceremonies. The temple was closed in the evening after the final rituals were completed.
The last day of the Kumbham pooja was highly significant as it included the Sahasrakalasam ceremony, a special ritual marking the conclusion of the event. This important ritual was conducted by Thantri Kandararu Brahmadathan, who performed the kalasapooja at the mandapam located to the south of the sreekovil. He was assisted by Melsanthi Arunkumar Nampoothiri in carrying out the religious proceedings, which started at 5 PM on Sunday.
The concluding day of the pooja also featured several other important rituals, including:
- Kalabhabhishekam
- Udayasthamana pooja
- Ashtabhishekam
- Pushpabhishekam
- Padi pooja
Each of these rituals played a vital role in completing the spiritual ceremonies, adding to the significance of the event for devotees.
Closing Ceremony
The Kumbham pooja came to an end with the kalasabhishekam, which was performed on the idol of Lord Ayyappa during the uchcha pooja on Monday. This holy ritual symbolizes divine blessings for all the devotees. Later in the evening, the temple doors were closed after the athazha pooja and the singing of Harivarasanam at 10 PM, marking the completion of the festival.
Next Reopening of the Temple
For devotees looking forward to their next visit, the Sabarimala temple will reopen on March 14, 2025, for the monthly pooja of the Malayalam month of Meenam. This will be another spiritual occasion for devotees to offer their prayers and seek blessings.
