After nearly 19 years, commuters in Visakhapatnam finally have good news, as the Ministry of Railways has approved a regular weekly train service between Visakhapatnam and SMVT Bengaluru.

Visakhapatnam-Bengaluru Special Train
This has been a long-standing demand, especially from people in North Andhra, including IT professionals and students who frequently travel to Bengaluru. Earlier, this train ran only as a Train-on-Demand special and has been converted into a permanent Weekly Express service now. From May 10, 2026, the current special train with nos. 08581/08582 will operate regularly with new numbers 18509 and 18510.
Train Timings & Stoppages
Train number 18509 will start from Visakhapatnam every Sunday at 3:20 pm, pass through Duvvada at 3:53 pm, and reach SMVT Bengaluru the next day, Monday at 1:50 pm. For the return journey, train number 18510 will begin regular service from May 11, 2026. It will leave SMVT Bengaluru every Monday at 3:50 pm and arrive in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday at 1:30 pm. The train will stop at many important stations along the route, including Anakapalli, Samalkot, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Nellore, Renigunta, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Kuppam, Bangarpet, and Krishnarajpuram.
Train Features
The train will have 18 coaches to meet different travel needs. These include one AC 2-tier coach, one AC 3-tier, four AC 3-tier economy, six sleeper class coaches, four general second-class coaches, and two brake/SLR vans.
Railway officials have encouraged passengers to use this new regular service between Vizag and Bengaluru. This development is seen as an important step in improving rail connectivity and making travel easier for people in the region.
