Varanasi-Gorakhpur Highway Update: 2400-Meter Road ExpansionNears Completion

The road widening project from Kaithi intersection to Markandeya Mahadev Dham on the Varanasi-Gorakhpur National Highway is making good progress. The plan aims to expand the road to four lanes over a distance of 2400 meters, improving connectivity and infrastructure in the area. Though there were initial challenges due to property disputes, efforts from local leaders and the Public Works Department have helped resolve many issues.

Varanasi-Gorakhpur Highway Update

Compensation for Affected Families

The expansion work initially faced resistance from around 90 families in the Kaithi market and village area, as their properties were affected. However, with the intervention of Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, a former Union Minister, many property owners agreed to cooperate.

To support the affected families, the Public Works Department has already compensated nearly two dozen property owners. The department is still waiting for applications from the remaining affected individuals so that further compensation can be processed. These efforts have helped speed up the project and reduce opposition from local residents.

Project Completion and Warnings for Building Owners

At present, almost two-thirds of the road expansion work is complete. The project is expected to be finished before the upcoming Monsoon fair. Along with widening the road, beautification efforts are also being planned to enhance the area's appeal.

The Public Works Department has requested property owners to clear the designated areas immediately. They have also issued a warning that any remaining buildings in the expansion zone may be demolished, and the owners will have to bear the demolition costs. This step is aimed at ensuring the project is completed on time without unnecessary delays.

Construction of Additional CC Road

Apart from the highway expansion, a CC road is also being constructed from Markandeya Mahadev Dham to the Ganga Gomti Sangam. While some landowners have expressed dissatisfaction with the compensation offered, discussions are ongoing to find a fair solution. Given the area's importance for tourism, business, and religious activities, authorities are confident that a mutual agreement will be reached soon.

The completion of this project will bring significant benefits to the local community and visitors. The improved road network will not only ease traffic congestion but also boost trade, tourism, and business activities in the region. The Public Works Department is committed to addressing any concerns that arise, ensuring that the project benefits everyone involved.

The widening of the Varanasi-Gorakhpur National Highway near Markandeya Mahadev Dham is a crucial step in the region's development. With most challenges resolved and a large part of the work already completed, the project is progressing steadily. Once finished, it will greatly enhance connectivity and contribute to the overall growth of the area.
