The Dalmandi road widening project in Varanasi has officially started. The Public Works Department (PWD) has begun measuring houses and shops along the stretch to plan the road expansion and decide compensation for affected property owners. This major step is expected to improve traffic flow and road conditions in the busy area.

Property Surveys Underway
On Monday, PWD staff continued measuring houses on Dalmandi road after an initial visit on Saturday. They carefully recorded each property's length, width, and area. By afternoon, the team had measured around 75 houses. The goal is to collect detailed data so that fair compensation can be given to the property owners.
The road, which is currently 650 meters long and leads to the Chowk police station, will be expanded by 17 meters. So far, 150 properties have been surveyed. The workers also noted the height of the buildings and the width of the road to understand how the widening would affect the structures around it.
Some residents and shopkeepers, including Hasan Abbas, Zafar Abbas, Badshah Ali, and Noor Afsha Ansari, whose houses were surveyed, did not wish to talk about the project.
Project Budget and Approval
The total budget for this road project is ₹220.59 crores. The project was approved on the last day of the 2024-25 financial year. The government has already released ₹2 crores to get the work started. The project is moving forward with proper planning and government approval.
Tender Process Details
The PWD will conduct the tender process online to keep everything transparent. Agencies interested in the project can submit their bids between April 14 and April 21. The final decision will be made on April 22, after reviewing all applications. This method ensures fairness in choosing the contractor who will carry out the expansion work.
Chief Minister's Support
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also keeping an eye on the project. During a recent visit to Varanasi, he asked for updates on the Dalmandi road project in a review meeting. The PWD submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR), and the state government quickly responded by approving the funds. This shows that the state is serious about improving infrastructure in Varanasi.
The Dalmandi road widening project is moving ahead with strong planning and support. With accurate property measurements, a fair tender process, and government help, the project is expected to bring better roads and smoother traffic for the people of Varanasi.
