Uttar Pradesh Plans for a New National Highway from Chandanpur to Prayagraj

The Indian government is responsible for developing and maintaining National Highways (NHs) across the country, including in Uttar Pradesh. Many state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, request the central government to upgrade state roads into National Highways. The government evaluates these requests based on connectivity needs, priority, and alignment with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. Currently, the length of NHs in Uttar Pradesh has increased from 7,986 km in 2014 to about 12,123 km.

Uttar Pradesh s New National Highway

Proposed Road from Chandanpur to Prayagraj

A proposal has been made to construct a National Highway from Chandanpur (Pachpedwa) in Balrampur district to Prayagraj via Imilia Koder, Pachpedwa, Judikuiya Chauraha, Ganeshpur Bazaar, Utraula, Mankapur, Nawabganj, and Ayodhya. The road aims to improve connectivity in the Shravasti Parliamentary Constituency and benefit public transport and trade.

Current Road Status

- Chandanpur to Utraula (46.6 km):

This stretch includes a 1.1 km section from Pachpedwa to Judikuiya Chauraha, which is already part of NH-730. This part was upgraded to a two-lane road with paved shoulders on March 31, 2021. However, the remaining 45.5 km of this stretch is a Main District Road (MDR) under the Uttar Pradesh state government.

- Utraula to Nawabganj via Mankapur (58 km):

This road is a State Highway (SH-9) and falls under the jurisdiction of the Uttar Pradesh government.

- Nawabganj to Prayagraj via Ayodhya (158 km):

This road has already been declared NH-330. Within this stretch, 51 km has been developed into a four-lane highway, while the remaining 107 km is a two-lane road with paved shoulders or standard two-lane NH configuration.

While the government has not yet declared the entire road as a National Highway, there is a process in place to review such requests. The authorities consider various factors, including the importance of the road for regional connectivity and economic growth.

If approved, the new highway could improve transportation between Balrampur, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj, making travel smoother and more efficient for residents and businesses. The government continues to focus on upgrading key roads in Uttar Pradesh to improve mobility and support development in the region.
