Managing traffic congestion and ensuring smooth travel is a top priority for city officials. In a recent surprise inspection of the Lucknow-Kanpur Road, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Roshan Jacob took strict action to improve road conditions. Her inspection focused on solving traffic issues, removing illegal encroachments, and speeding up highway construction. With the involvement of key officials, several new measures were introduced to make commuting safer and more efficient for the public.

Inspection and Immediate Actions
During her inspection, Dr. Jacob visited important areas like Nadarganj and Khande Dev. She saw firsthand the traffic challenges and ordered strict enforcement of parking rules. Vehicles parked illegally on the roadside were directed to be removed to prevent congestion.
She also took action against illegal structures blocking drainage work. These obstacles often cause waterlogging during the monsoon season, leading to traffic delays. To tackle this, an anti-encroachment drive was launched to clear the roads of unauthorized constructions.
Enhancing Road Safety and Traffic Management
To further improve road safety, Dr. Jacob instructed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to increase the number of patrolling vehicles. This step will ensure continuous monitoring and prevent road obstructions.
She also ordered the deployment of additional hydra cranes and marshals at closer intervals. This will help in managing accidents and breakdowns more efficiently. Additionally, the service lanes on the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway are set to be widened, ensuring a smoother and safer travel experience.
Addressing Construction-Related Congestion
One of the biggest challenges on this route is the ongoing construction of a 51-meter flyover at Dahi Chowki. The work has narrowed the road, causing significant traffic congestion. Dr. Jacob directed officials to implement traffic diversions to ease movement until the flyover is completed.
The construction is being carried out by PNC and is expected to be finished in the next two months. Once completed, the flyover will significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks, making travel between Lucknow and Kanpur much easier.
Collaborative Efforts for Better Roads
Dr. Jacob's inspection was supported by key officials, including Unnao District Magistrate Gaurang Rathi, Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar, and representatives from NHAI. Their collective efforts show a strong commitment to resolving road issues and improving public transport.
To speed up the construction work, night-time shifts are being encouraged. Authorities are also considering temporary closures of some flyovers and underpasses to ensure faster project completion.
The recent inspection has led to strict actions that aim to create a better road network between Lucknow and Kanpur. By enforcing parking rules, removing illegal structures, and enhancing traffic management, the administration is working towards safer and more efficient roads.
With the expected completion of the flyover in the coming months, residents and travelers can look forward to a major improvement in traffic flow and road safety. These measures reflect the administration's dedication to solving traffic problems and making daily commutes smoother for everyone.
