Southern Railway has announced temporary changes to several train services because of engineering and yard improvement work at Tirunelveli Junction. The work is aimed at improving railway infrastructure, increasing operational efficiency and ensuring smoother train movement in the future. During the maintenance period, several trains will be diverted, partially cancelled, short-terminated or short-originated to allow the work to be completed safely.

Trains to be Affected
One of the major changes affects Train No. 16321/16322 Coimbatore-Nagercoil Express. On selected days, the train will either be cancelled or operate only up to Dindigul, with passengers needing to make alternate travel arrangements for the remaining part of the journey. Similarly, the Nagercoil-Tambaram Antyodaya Express (20692) and the Nagercoil-Coimbatore Superfast Express (22667) will start from or terminate at Dindigul on certain dates instead of their usual stations.
Several trains serving Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Tiruchendur and Sengottai will also be affected. The Nellai Superfast Express (12631/12632) between Chennai Egmore and Tirunelveli will operate only up to Vanchi Maniyachchi on some days. The Chennai Egmore-Tiruchendur Superfast Express (20605) will terminate at Virudhunagar, while the Tiruchendur-Palakkad Express (16731/16732) will either start from or end at Madurai or Vanchi Maniyachchi on different dates. Some services, including the Palaruvi Express, will be diverted through alternate routes via Tenkasi and Rajapalayam.
Long-distance trains are also affected. The Chennai Egmore-Guruvayur Express (16127/16128) will be diverted via Pollachi and Palakkad, bypassing the usual route through Madurai, Tirunelveli and Nagercoil. Some Sengottai-bound trains, including the Erode-Sengottai Express, will either be cancelled or run on diverted routes during the work period.
Advisory for Passengers
Southern Railway has advised passengers to check the latest train schedules before travelling, as the changes are temporary and have been made to support important infrastructure upgrades. Officials said the completed yard remodelling project will improve train punctuality, increase station capacity, enhance safety and reduce delays for passengers travelling across southern Tamil Nadu.
