In order to develop and progress the jazz scene in India, Banyan Tree's International Jazz Festival was founded in 2020. Along with the Dutch Amersfoort Jazz Festival, this festival presents great jazz and world music. It traveled to Pune, Bengaluru, and Mumbai for its first two editions when each city welcomed it with great zeal and enthusiasm amongst people loving jazz.

The event is expanding this year for its 3rd edition and visiting five cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. This ten-day tour will begin on April 20 and run through April 30. World Jazz Day is observed on April 30, the final day of the tour. A remarkable lineup of international jazz musicians out from Netherlands, the United States, Thailand, Serbia, Brazil, & South Korea will also perform at the event.

Jazz is a compelling and historically significant musical form that has captured the attention of many musicians and music lovers worldwide. Due to its improvisational & experimental elements, it is a very sophisticated kind of music. Jazz is known for its improvisational style, which gives performers the freedom to showcase their unique personalities and creative abilities.

Jazz places a strong emphasis on syncopation and intricate rhythms, which is one of its main characteristics. Swing rhythms, in which the beats are distributed unevenly, are frequently used by jazz performers to create a sense of movement and intensity. Also, they regularly employ intricate harmonic structures and chord progressions, which give their music a refined and subtle tone.

African-American jazz musicians made their first appearance in India in the 1920s when they played in Mumbai and Kolkata. They served as an example for Goan musicians, who later introduced jazz to the soundtracks of Indian Hindi films. Indian music and jazz have regularly intermingled. Jazz is currently quite popular in cities like Kolkata, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, & Goa.

Both jazz and Indian classical music involve improvisation, which is one of their shared characteristics. Musicians recognized this, and in the 1940s, collaborations between Western jazz musicians and Indian classical musicians gave rise to the new musical genre known as Indo-jazz, which incorporated jazz, classical, & Indian influences.
