The Flood situation In Bihar Has Worsened, Affecting More Than 16 Lakh People

The flood situation in Bihar has worsened, affecting more than 16 lakh people across various districts. Heavy rainfall has caused major rivers like the Kosi and Bagmati to overflow, leading to widespread flooding. The most affected areas include Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, and several other districts. The floods have caused significant damage, disrupting daily life for many people.

Emergency Measures and Relief Operations

In response to the severe flooding, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has been actively involved in rescue and relief efforts. During one such operation, an IAF helicopter, which was distributing food packets in Muzaffarpur on October 2, 2024, made an emergency landing in a waterlogged area due to a technical issue. Fortunately, everyone on board was safe, and locals helped the crew until officials arrived.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have also deployed 33 teams to assist in evacuation and relief operations. So far, over 4.5 lakh people have been evacuated from the affected areas. The government has set up more than 20,000 relief camps, where displaced people are receiving shelter and support. In addition, 1,365 community kitchens have been established to provide food to those in need.
