The Telangana State government has decided to fully take control of the operations and maintenance of the Hyderabad Metro Rail in its first phase, which currently covers 69 km across the city. The government wants to complete the takeover process by March 31.

Decision Made During State Cabinet Meeting
The decision was taken during a long State Cabinet meeting held on Monday. Ministers discussed the matter in detail and agreed that it should also be taken up during the upcoming Budget Session of the State Legislative Assembly, which will begin on March 16. The government said it is open to suggestions from Opposition parties regarding the takeover plan. It has also invited their views on how to move forward with the second and third phases of the metro project.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said that the discussion in the Assembly would help in deciding the next steps and ensuring smooth expansion of metro services in the future.
Second & Third Phase of Hyderabad Metro
The State government is also planning to develop the second and third phases of the Hyderabad Metro Rail in partnership with the Central Government. As part of this process, the Centre has appointed the Managing Director of the *Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation* as a member of a high-level committee. This committee has been formed to suggest the best way to complete the takeover and guide future expansion plans.
With the government stepping in directly, officials believe metro services can be better managed and expanded more effectively. The move is expected to strengthen public transport in Hyderabad and improve travel convenience for daily commuters across the city.
