The Tamil Nadu Tourism Department is creating an impressive eco-park along the scenic East Coast Road (ECR) near Kovalam Beach. Known as the Nandavanam Heritage Park, this exciting 223-acre project is set to be a cultural and recreational treasure for visitors. With a budget of ₹100 crore, the project has central government backing through the Sustainable Agriculture and Sustainable Cultural Infrastructure (SASCI) scheme. Once fully open, it is expected to offer employment to around 10,000 people, greatly boosting the local economy and tourism.

Three Unique Zones for an Enriching Experience
The park will be divided into three main sections, each providing different attractions:
1. Cholai Vanam (Tamil Culture Zone)
Cholai Vanam aims to immerse visitors in Tamil Nadu's cultural heritage, featuring miniatures of famous temples, sculptures, and traditional folk deities. Highlights include a music garden, a performance area, handicraft displays, and a toy park. This zone allows visitors to experience the richness of Tamil culture through diverse exhibits and activities.
2. Viharam (Recreation Zone)
Designed as a fun-filled space for families, especially children, Viharam offers illuminated parks, a dedicated kids' play area, a planetarium, and vibrant flower gardens. This area focuses on combining leisure with learning, making it an ideal stop for families and school groups.
3. Maidanam (Event Area)
Spanning 13 acres, Maidanam is a large open area intended for social gatherings and events, with a capacity to host up to 25,000 people. It includes various sports facilities like volleyball, tennis, and basketball courts, along with designated ATV and go-karting zones. Notably, this will be the first location in Tamil Nadu to feature beach shacks, a beach walk, and viewing decks for relaxing by the shore.
Amenities for Visitor Convenience
To make visitors' experiences smooth and enjoyable, Nandavanam Heritage Park will include several key amenities. Two-star hotels are planned on-site for guests who wish to stay overnight. The park will also feature six entry plazas and two retail streets with direct access from the ECR, lined with shops and food and beverage outlets. With ample parking for around 1,920 cars and 1,920 bikes, the park aims to make accessibility easy for all.

Central Plaza and Glamping Area
The park will have a massive central plaza surrounded by lush greenery, offering a calm area to relax and socialize. An exclusive "glamping" (luxurious camping) zone is also planned for those looking to enjoy nature with modern comforts.
A Boost to Tamil Nadu's Tourism and Culture
Officials believe the Nandavanam Heritage Park will become a landmark attraction, drawing locals and tourists alike to the East Coast Road. This eco-park not only preserves Tamil Nadu's natural beauty but also celebrates its culture, creating a unique blend of entertainment, education, and relaxation.
With its blend of cultural exhibits, recreational activities, and eco-friendly design, the Nandavanam Heritage Park is set to become a popular destination and a significant addition to Tamil Nadu's tourism map.
