Stormy Weather Hits Delhi: IMD Warns of More Rain and Winds Up to 60 kmph

The weather in Delhi has turned unpredictable again. After a sudden dust storm and thunderstorm disrupted the city recently, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued another weather alert. Delhi and nearby areas may see more thunderstorms, light rain, and strong winds reaching up to 60 kmph in the next few hours.

Stormy Weather Hits Delhi

Flights Affected Due to Storm

On Sunday, the sudden change in weather caused major disruptions, especially in air travel. Around 14 flights that were supposed to land in Delhi were diverted. An IndiGo flight had to stop its landing due to very high wind speed, which reached 80 kmph. The plane circled several times before it could land safely at the Delhi airport. These weather issues show how unsafe the skies can become during such sudden storms.

IMD Issues Multi-State Warning

The IMD has not only warned Delhi but also many other states across India. Places like Chandigarh, Haryana, and areas in the Northeast have been given warnings for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. According to the IMD, these states may experience thundersqualls on Monday, June 2.

States like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya could see heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts. East Rajasthan, Kerala, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal may also receive heavy rainfall. These warnings suggest that the weather changes are not just limited to Delhi but are affecting a large part of the country.

More Areas to Face Strong Winds

Other places like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan are expected to face thundersqualls with wind speeds between 50-60 kmph. Some regions such as Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and parts of the Northeast are likely to see thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds. Bihar, Assam, and Meghalaya may also see wind speeds of 30-40 kmph along with thunderstorms and lightning.

Delhi and NCR Hit by Dust Storms

On Sunday, Delhi and areas around it, like Noida, Gurgaon, and Faridabad, were hit by dust storms and thunderstorms with rain. This sudden weather affected normal life, traffic, and travel in many parts of the city. It is part of a bigger weather pattern that seems to be impacting several parts of India at the same time.

Floods in Assam Add to the Crisis

While other states are facing storms and rainfall, Assam is also dealing with floods and landslides due to non-stop rain. More than 78,000 people in 15 districts have been affected, and at least eight people have lost their lives. The damage is serious and shows how the changing weather is creating big challenges across India.
