The Indian High Commission announced on Saturday, 14th January 2023 that all Indian people traveling to Sri Lanka have been instructed to adhere to the nation's updated Covid-19 standards.

All visitors to Sri Lanka are required to carry vaccination certificates in accordance with the country's new Covid-19 regulations, and unvaccinated visitors must carry a negative PCR report that was obtained 72 hours before their arrival.

Prior to that, on 7th December 2022, Sri Lanka discontinued asking travelers from other countries to present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

It was also no longer necessary to present a COVID-19 test (PCR/Rapid Antigen Test) (RAT) that was negative before boarding or upon arrival.

According to sources, the updated COVID-19 regulations went into effect on Friday, 15th January 2023. The Indian High Commission then released a statement urging Indian citizens visiting Sri Lanka to abide by the most recent COVID-19 regulations.

Sri Lankan authorities have revealed additional information on the updated guideline and stated that they will closely monitor any new COVID-19-related developments in cooperation with the health authorities.

Number of Tourists arriving in Sri Lanka:

Out of the more than 719,000 visitors who entered Sri Lanka in 2022, 123,000 were citizens of India. The largest foreign market for Sri Lanka was India. The second biggest number of arrivals was a total of 91,372 visitors from Russia & 85,187 tourists from the United Kingdom.

This was a substantial improvement over the pandemic's peak in 2021. Less than 195,000 tourists visited Sri Lanka in 2021. Due to unheard-of economic crises and street protests last year that resulted in a change of government in Sri Lanka, most countries issued negative travel advice, which had an impact on Sri Lankan tourism as well.
