Special Shri Ramayana Yatra: Indian Railways Introduced a Tourist Train to Promote Pilgrimage Tourism

Indian Railways, along with IRCTC, has launched the special Shri Ramayana Yatra to promote pilgrimage tourism under the government's "Dekho Apna Desh" and "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat" programmes. This 16-night and 17-day journey started from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on March 30, 2026.

Destinations Included in the Tour

The tour covers around 7,560 km and follows the journey of Lord Rama as described in the epic Ramayana, and it will include Important destinations, Sitamarhi in Bihar, believed to be the birthplace of Maa Sita, and Janakpur in Nepal, which can be reached by road. It will also include Varanasi and Prayagraj, where tourists can see places like Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Tulsi Mandir, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir, and attend the Ganga Aarti.

The journey further covers places in central and southern India, such as Nashik, including Trimbakeshwar Temple and Panchvati, Hampi, and Rameshwaram, where the famous Ramanathaswamy Temple and Dhanushkodi are located.

Tourist Train's Features

This tour is being conducted using the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train, which offers a comfortable and premium travel experience for about 150 passengers. The train has fully air-conditioned coaches in different classes, two dining restaurants, a modern kitchen, shower facilities, sensor-based washrooms, and even foot massagers. For safety, CCTV cameras and security staff are provided in each coach.

Boarding Points

Passengers can board the train from several stations, including Delhi, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Tundla, Etawah, Kanpur, and Lucknow. The package also includes travel in AC buses for sightseeing, stay in 3-star hotels, and vegetarian meals throughout the trip.
Bookings are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with an option to pay 25% initially. This initiative aims to showcase India's rich cultural and religious heritage through special tourist trains.
