Southern Railway Launches 336 Special Trains for Sabarimala Makaravilakku Pilgrimage Travel

The Southern Railway has made detailed plans to ensure safe, smooth, and comfortable travel for devotees visiting Sabarimala during the Makaravilakku festival. Since a large number of pilgrims are expected during this period, the railways have arranged special train services to manage the extra rush.

Special Trains by Southern Railway

This year, Southern Railway is operating a total of 336 special train services in connection with the Sabarimala pilgrimage. In addition to regular services, extra Makaravilakku Special Express trains have been introduced to help clear heavy passenger demand and make travel easier for pilgrims coming from different states.

One such service is Train No. 06065 Kollam-Kakinada Town Express Special. This train will depart from Kollam Junction at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, and reach Kakinada Town at 12 noon on Friday. Within the Thiruvananthapuram Division, the train will stop at Kayamkulam Junction, Chengannur, Thiruvalla, Changanassery, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Aluva, and Thrissur.

For the return journey, Train No. 06066 Kakinada Town-Kollam Express Special will leave Kakinada Town at 6:28 p.m. on Friday, January 16, and arrive at Kollam Junction at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Another special service, Train No. 06067 Thiruvananthapuram Central-Charlapalli Express Special, will depart Thiruvananthapuram Central at 4:10 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, and reach Charlapalli at 3 p.m. on Friday. This train will also stop at Kollam Junction, Chengannur, Thiruvalla, Changanassery, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Aluva, and Thrissur.

The return service, Train No. 06068 Charlapalli-Thiruvananthapuram Central Express Special, will leave Charlapalli at 9:45 p.m. on Friday, January 16, and reach Thiruvananthapuram Central at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

After the Makaravilakku festival, pilgrims can use around 20 train services that stop at Chengannur, a key station for Sabarimala travelers. The railways confirmed that trains such as 07114, 06065, 06067, 06120, and 06548 have been officially notified as Makaravilakku special trains to support pilgrims during this busy season.
