Shivamogga Electric Buses: 50 Electric Buses are Expected to Operate in the City Soon

Shivamogga is set to get a major boost to its public transport system, with 50 electric buses expected to start operating on the city's roads soon, aiming to improve public transportation while promoting cleaner and more environmentally friendly travel.

The introduction of electric buses is part of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) efforts to expand the use of electric vehicles in public transport. Shivamogga is among the cities and towns where facilities are being developed to support the operation of these buses. Earlier plans by KSRTC had also identified Shivamogga as one of the destinations for electric bus services.

The new buses are expected to provide passengers with a more comfortable and modern travel experience. Unlike conventional diesel buses, electric buses do not produce exhaust emissions while operating. Their use could therefore help reduce air pollution and contribute to a cleaner urban environment.

The arrival of the buses is also expected to strengthen public transport in Shivamogga. Better bus services can encourage more residents to use public transportation instead of private cars and two-wheelers, which could help reduce traffic congestion as well as fuel consumption. To support electric buses, charging infrastructure is also being developed at selected KSRTC depots and bus stations. Shivamogga is among the locations where such infrastructure has been planned as part of the state's electric mobility programme.

The move comes as Karnataka continues to increase its focus on electric mobility and cleaner public transportation. Electric buses are being introduced on both city and inter-city routes across the state.
