According to sources, there is a piece of very serious news coming that the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, in Maharashtra, India, may close down indefinitely from 1st May 2023.

For those who don't know, May 1st is also Maharashtra Day, which marks the start of the agitation. According to reports, the Sai Baba Temple Trust requested the shutdown in protest of the Indian Central Government's intention to deploy the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to provide security to the Shirdi Sai Baba temple.

The most significant and a very famous religious tourist attraction Sri Sai Baba temple is located in Shirdi, a small town in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Every year, the town draws millions of tourists of all religious backgrounds from all around the world.

Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust identifies itself as the Governing & Administrative body of the temples including the main Shrine and other temples located in the premises. The body is in charge of overseeing services including free food, accommodation, and all the different aspects of running the temple. It also manages charity colleges and schools.

The Maharashtra Police has been in charge of maintaining the temple's security up until this point. The local shop owners association, transportation workers, businesses, and individuals working in the hospitality sector have all called for this protest.

With a very high inflow of devotees, pilgrims, and visitors from all over India, the Sai Baba temple, which is adored by both Hindus and Muslims as well as people of other sects and faiths, is a major contributor to the Shirdi town's economy.

What is the issue and protest all about?

The government has chosen to use the CISF, which primarily guards industrial facilities, metro stations, and in 2018, the CISF handed over the security of the Shirdi airport. Now comes a point where the central government has made a decision to select CISF for Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Temple Security.

The temple's administration has, however, objected to this choice, stating that the CISF is not trained to tackle the particular security issues that arise at a place of worship. The shutdown is scheduled to start on May 1 and last until a solution is found.

Due to Shirdi's reliance on tourism, the shutdown is going to have a substantial impact on the regional economy. Thousands of individuals whose livelihoods depend on tourism would be impacted, and numerous hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments will be forced to close.

The second paragraph stated clearly that, "On behalf of Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust, Shirdi, darshan at Shri Saibaba Samadhi Temple, all the Aartis and all the religious traditions will continue on Monday 01st May 2023 and thereafter all the facilities from Sansthan such as Shri Sai Prasadalaya, all Bhakt Niwas locations, and Hospitals, etc would be functioning regularly as always. This information was provided by Mr.Rahul Jadhav, I/C Chief Executive Officer of the Sansthan."
