Indian Railways has announced plans to upgrade its Shatabdi Express and Jan Shatabdi Express trains. Around 100 train services will be improved with better facilities, interiors, and passenger comfort. The Railway Board has asked all railway zones to prepare detailed plans for these upgrades.

According to an official order issued on April 23, the goal is to improve the look, comfort, and service quality of these trains. The Board said it is important to keep the trains in good condition and upgrade all features that directly affect passengers. The Railway Board has instructed all zonal heads to inspect train coaches and create a complete action plan. Once these plans are ready, the upgrade work will begin.

The improvements will include better washrooms, upgraded doors and locks, improved washbasins and flushing systems, and enhanced drainage systems. Other passenger facilities will also be improved to make travel more comfortable.
Railways also plans to upgrade seats by improving upholstery and adding features like mobile charging points, snack tables, footrests, armrests, roller blinds, and magazine holders. Efforts will also be made to reduce jerks during travel by improving coach fittings, vestibules, and gangway areas.
Moreover, the interiors of coaches will be modernised, including better panels, flooring, and improved areas near the washrooms. Digital passenger information systems and CCTV cameras will also be upgraded for better safety and convenience. The exterior of the coaches will also be improved, including window glass and destination boards, to give trains a cleaner & more modern look.
Officials said the main aim of this project is to modernise these popular trains and meet passengers' growing expectations for cleanliness, comfort, and reliable services.
