On Thursday, October 30, 2025, many schools across India are closed because of two main reasons: Cyclone Montha bringing heavy rain and storms, and the observance of festivals in some regions. The article urges parents to check with their schools directly, as the status varies significantly from state to state.

School Holidays Till 31st October
In the southern states like Andhra Pradesh, schools in several districts have been shut since October 27 and will stay closed through October 31 due to severe weather alerts (red/orange/yellow) from the meteorological department. Districts such as Bapatla, YSR Kadapa, Prakasam, Nellore, and Tirupati are among those affected. Large-scale evacuations are also underway: about 10,000 people have been moved into relief camps located in schools and government buildings. Similarly, in Odisha, all schools and anganwadi centres in certain districts remain closed till October 30 because the cyclone's outer effects are still being felt.
In Telangana, several districts, including Khammam, Bhadradri, and Kothagudem, will also keep schools closed on October 29 and 30 ahead of heavy rain.
Orange Alert in Tamil Nadu
Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, districts under an orange alert, like Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Ranipet, have declared holidays, and further closures are possible if the weather worsens.
On the other hand, states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, which had earlier closed schools for the festival of Chhath Puja, have largely resumed classes, though there will be school closures in West Bengal on October 31 for another festival.
