Sea, Sand, and Work: Goa Announces Co-Working Spaces on Beaches

Goa is gearing up to offer co-working spaces on its picturesque Morjim and Ashwem beaches, catering to those seeking a perfect blend of work and leisure. The announcement comes from the state's tourism department, aligning with the Goa government's vision to position itself as a holistic tourism destination, extending beyond its famed beaches. State Tourism Secretary Sanjeev Ahuja expressed the government's ambition to attract more European tourists and high-spending travelers, enhancing the overall tourist experience in Goa.

Diversifying Tourism Beyond Beaches

Ahuja emphasized the government's determination to transform Goa into a tourism hotspot by introducing co-working spaces as a novel attraction. Beyond the sun-kissed shores, the state seeks to provide an all-encompassing experience to visitors. The primary goal is to lure tourists from Europe and other high-spending markets, enticing them with more reasons to visit Goa repeatedly. Ahuja stated, "We want to invite more tourists, especially from Europe, and high-spending tourists from other destinations by providing them an all-round experience."

Nomad Visas and Coastal Workspaces

Introducing the concept of co-working spaces on beaches is part of a broader initiative led by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte. The state government envisions granting nomad visas to individuals who wish to work while enjoying the serene coastal ambiance of Morjim and Ashwem beaches. The facilities at these locations are currently in progress and are expected to be ready soon.

Ahuja outlined the steps taken by the government, including writing to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the External Affairs Ministry to facilitate nomad visas for such travelers. Discussions are underway, and the state government remains optimistic about a positive outcome, anticipating progress after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The state's approach goes beyond beach tourism, with a focus on regenerative tourism that actively involves local communities, culture, cuisine, festivals, and even farmers. An agreement has already been established with Temple Connect, an organization dedicated to revitalizing and developing the temple ecosystem.

In addition to co-working spaces and beach tourism, the state is placing significance on spiritual tourism through the concept of regenerative tourism. Visitors will soon have the opportunity to experience spice and cashew plantations in Goa, providing a unique farm-to-table experience. The government aims to create a comprehensive and immersive tourist experience, showcasing the diverse facets of Goa beyond its sun-soaked shores.
