In the serene settings of P'THITTA, the Sabarimala temple, a beacon of faith and devotion, is set to reopen its doors for the auspicious Makaravilakku festival. As the clock ticks towards 5 pm on Saturday, devotees across the globe turn their eyes towards this sacred shrine, anticipating the commencement of a festival that resonates with fervor and spirituality. The festival marks a significant occasion in the Hindu calendar, and this year, the preparations have been as meticulous as they are heartfelt.

Virtual Queue Bookings: A Testament to Devotion
The virtual queue booking for the Makaravilakku festival at the Sabarimala temple has closed, a testament to the unwavering devotion of the pilgrims. The booking limit, a measure to ensure a smooth and organized pilgrimage, has been reached, reflecting the immense popularity of the event. "From December 30 to January 12, the daily virtual queue booking limit is 80,000. On January 13, the limit is 70,000 and on January 14 and 15, the limit is 50,000. The booking has been completed for all those days," informed Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president P S Prasanth. In the face of such overwhelming demand, the temple authorities have provided an alternative: spot bookings at Nilakkal, capped at 10,000 per day, ensuring that no devotee returns without receiving blessings.

The Ceremony of Sanctity
The Sabarimala temple's reopening ceremony is steeped in tradition and sanctity. The temple will be opened by Melsanthi P N Mahesh Namboothiri in the presence of thantri Kandararu Mahesh Mohanaru. These rituals are not mere formalities but represent a deeper spiritual connection and commitment to the divine. Following the opening, Melsanthi will light the fireplace (aazhi), a symbolic act that ignites the spiritual fervor among the pilgrims. As the holy flames ascend, the devotees are invited to ascend the sacred steps and have darshan, marking the peak of their spiritual journey. The temple, which was closed at 11 pm on December 27 after the Mandala pooja, now awaits the return of the faithful, ready to bestow blessings and grace upon all.

As the Sabarimala temple readies itself for the Makaravilakku festival, the air is filled with anticipation and reverence. This festival is not just an event but a journey of purity and peace that thousands undertake each year. The closed virtual queue bookings reflect the immense faith and dedication of the pilgrims, while the provision for spot bookings showcases the temple's commitment to inclusivity. With the temple's doors set to open amidst sacred rituals, it promises to be a transformative experience for all present. Let the light of Makaravilakku guide the devout on their path to spiritual fulfillment.
