Varanasi's tent city offers a remarkable experience to tourists, blending comfort with the serenity of the Ganga. Despite current removal plans, visitors can anticipate its revival and a stronger, more sustainable state in the future.
In order to boost tourism in Varanasi, a charming tent city was established on the banks of the Ganga earlier this year. Environmentalists and the National Mission for Clean Ganga and Pollution Control Department have raised concerns about the presence of a garbage pile near the tent city and the lack of an obtained No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Moreover, in March, the tent city suffered significant damage due to heavy rains and hailstorms, raising questions about its structural integrity and visitor safety.
Despite these challenges, the tent city has garnered great admiration from tourists, both domestic and international. The city has attracted inquiries and appreciation from visitors. The contract for setting up this city on the banks of the Ganges has been assigned to two companies for a period of five years, ensuring that those who admire it need not be disappointed. Even if they are unable to visit this year, they can anticipate a better and more robust city next year.
