Honoring Villages from Across the Globe

Dhorodo shares the spotlight with around 70 villages from nearly 40 countries worldwide that have also been recognized as 'Best Tourism Villages.' The award acknowledges the commitment of these villages to preserve their authentic landscapes, cultural heritage, local values, and culinary traditions.

The selected villages are assessed based on various criteria, including their cultural and natural resources, promotion and conservation of cultural assets, economic stability, social harmony, environmental sustainability, and tourism development capabilities.

Speaking on the achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized, "The recent recognition of Gujarat's Dhordo village in Kutch as the Best Tourism Village by the United Nations is a testament to India's progress. This, along with the previous acknowledgments of Karnataka's Hoysala Temples and West Bengal's Shantiniketan as world heritage sites, will undoubtedly spur economic growth and employment opportunities in various sectors.
