Rain in several parts of Kerala is bringing relief from the intense heat that people have been facing for the past few days. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, as some places may receive heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours. After days

of experiencing high temperatures in many districts, the arrival of rain and cloudy weather has started to cool things down. This change is especially noticeable in north Kerala, where rainfall has already helped reduce the heat.
Rain Alert in Kerala
The IMD has announced a yellow alert for northern districts, including Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. This alert highlights that these areas could receive heavy rainfall of 64.5-115.5 mm in a single day. Moreover, places like Thrissur and Palakkad may also experience heavy showers in some areas over the next few hours. As per weather experts, there is also a possibility of thunderstorms with strong winds moving at 40 to 50 km per hour, which may cause some local problems.
Challenges to be Faced
According to the IMD, even short periods of heavy rain can create difficulties. These include poor visibility on roads, waterlogging, and delays in travel. There may also be traffic problems due to fallen trees or flooded streets. Heavy rain can damage crops and affect the electricity supply. In hilly areas, there is a higher chance of landslides. Thunderstorms may also bring lightning risks.
Advisory for Kerala Residents
People are advised to stay alert with weather reports, plan their travel carefully, and take safety measures. Extra caution is needed in low-lying areas and places prone to landslides.
