Railway Minister Launches Affordable Sahibganj-Howrah Train Service For Jharkhand

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the Sahibganj-Howrah Intercity Express, significantly enhancing travel accessibility and economic growth in Jharkhand. This service offers low fares and connects residents efficiently to key regions.

In a significant move aimed at bolstering connectivity and economic growth in Jharkhand, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the daily Sahibganj-Howrah Intercity Express via video conferencing. This train, as announced on Thursday, promises a swift seven-hour journey across 350 km between Sahibganj and Howrah at a remarkably low fare of just Rs 125. This initiative is set to dramatically ease the travel burdens of Jharkhand's residents, offering them a cost-effective alternative to the more expensive road travel that currently ranges between Rs 700 to Rs 800.

The introduction of this new railway service is anticipated to not only make travel more accessible but also to spur business activities and job creation within the region. The Railway Ministry's efforts to enhance Jharkhand's connectivity reflect a broader strategy to stimulate regional development through improved transportation networks. This train service is expected to bring considerable relief and convenience to the people of Sahibganj, enabling them to connect with Howrah efficiently.

Boosting Regional Connectivity and Economic Prospects

In addition to the Sahibganj-Howrah Intercity Express, the Railway Minister has also announced an expansion of service for the Anand Vihar – Agartala Tejas Rajdhani Express. Beginning from Thursday, this weekly service will now include a stop at Sahibganj station, marking it as the train's first stop within Jharkhand. This adjustment meets a long-standing demand from Jharkhand's populace, further enhancing the state's railway network and ensuring that Sahibganj station serves as a crucial link between Bihar and West Bengal.

The Railway Minister, during his address, highlighted Jharkhand's rich heritage and its vital contributions to India's industrial sector and independence movement. He emphasized the state's strategic importance, noting its extensive history, cultural significance, and the role it plays in powering industries nationwide. Vaishnaw also pointed out the substantial increase in railway budget allocation for Jharkhand under Prime Minister Modi's tenure, from Rs 450 crores a decade ago to Rs 7,300 crores today. This sixteen-fold increase in investment underscores the central government's commitment to Jharkhand's development.

"Jharkhand is a large state with a historical culture, and many industries across the country depend on Jharkhand for power supply. If we look at Jharkhand's role in the history of independence, we should remember the contributions made over the last ten years under Modi's leadership," Vaishnaw stated. He added, "Ten years ago, the railway budget allocation for Jharkhand was merely Rs 450 crores, but today it has increased to Rs 7,300 crores. This is a 16-fold increase in investment for the development of Jharkhand."

This strategic focus on enhancing railway infrastructure and services in Jharkhand demonstrates a concerted effort to improve regional accessibility, stimulate economic growth, and honor the historical and cultural significance of the area. By lowering travel costs and providing convenient transportation options, these initiatives are poised to make a positive impact on the lives of Jharkhand's residents and the broader economic landscape of the region.
