Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that Indian Railways will launch a new IRCTC website by July 15. He announced while interacting with students at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) in Jaipur on Thursday.

According to railway officials, the upcoming website will have a more modern design and faster performance. It is being developed to provide a smoother and more user-friendly experience for passengers booking train tickets online. The upgraded platform is expected to include advanced features that will make ticket booking easier and more efficient.

How does the IRCTC Website Benefit Passengers?

The announcement comes as part of Indian Railways' broader plan to modernise its passenger reservation system (PRS). In May, the Ministry of Railways revealed plans to replace its nearly 40-year-old reservation system with a more advanced platform from August. While online ticket booking services were introduced in 2002, they now handle around 88 percent of all train ticket bookings in India.

One of the biggest advantages of the new reservation system will be its significantly higher booking capacity. The upgraded system will be able to process more than 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, compared to the current capacity of about 32,000 bookings per minute.

The ticket enquiry system will also become much more powerful. Currently, around 4 lakh enquiries can be handled per minute, but the new system will increase this number to over 40 lakh enquiries per minute. The upgraded platform will also feature a multilingual and easy-to-use interface.

Passengers will be able to choose their preferred seats and view fare calendars while booking tickets. Special facilities will also be integrated for Divyangjan, students and patients, making the system more inclusive.
